Up bright and early today. At 7 O'Clock we were shoehorned into a tiny Toyota minibus for a journey totalling 10 hours. However, the cramped, sweaty discomfort was offset with some of the most incredible views we've ever seen. Our little sardine tin wound it's way along precipitous roads, up through dry mountains to snow-capped peaks before descending into the cloud forests. The only distraction on this section was the road blocks guarded by some swarthy looking locals armed with crowbars. Beyond this we continued up through some stunning mountain passes before boarding a train for the final leg up to the town of Aguas Calientes at the base of Machu Picchu. Some food and a couple of beers and to bed for 3 hours sleep.
